- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪I went to Dr. Sugarman's office a year after having my braces removed. I had a permanent bottom retainer which was essentially just a wire glued to the back of my bottom teeth. I had no problems with the retainer prior to my visit. The visit was for an annual cleaning, and during the cleaning my bottom retainer was completely ripped in two locations by one of Sugarman's assistants rendering it broken. When I confronted Sugarman regarding the tear immediately after my cleaning he told me to talk my orthodontist about the fix and to then come back and talk to him about it. My orthodontist said it would be $300 to fix the retainer. After returning to Sugarman's office I asked him to pay for the fix given it was his fault for the break. He rudely told me that he didn't feel responsible for the break and stated that my orthodontist should use thicker wires for the retainers. He refused to pay for my retainer and refused to accept responsibility for causing the break even after reviewing the before and after pictures of my teeth and seeing the retainers were clearly broken during my visit with him. $300 is a small price to pay for a rich dentist to retain his integrity, for me it meant taking out additional school loans given I was in my first year of college.June 29, 2017by LEVI JACOB SEIDEL
